about

Originally recorded by our former band ‘The Kindness Of Strangers’ in 1988, this new version features friends Lucy and Karl, plus a mysterious interloper we found hanging around the studio. Lucy gets First Prize for being able to whistle into a microphone without laughing - I can’t do it...

The title comes from the closing lines spoken by Vivien Leigh as Blanche Dubois in the classic Elia Kazan film of Tennessee Williams’ play, ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’.

lyrics

Got no time for an encore
No time to make amends
Nothing left to say or do
Better leave before the end
You’re a long way from home
You come to depend
On the kindness of strangers

Turn the picture to the wall
Take the light out of your eye
Move your face to the shadows
So no-one sees you cry
You’re out on your own
You come to rely
On the kindness of strangers

(solo)

Do the things you never wanted
Say the things you never mean
Play a part you never learned
In someone else’s scene
You’re riding from a fall
That’s when you come to lean
On the kindness of strangers

Got no time for an encore
No time to make amends
Nothing left to say or do
Better leave before the end
You’re a long way from home
You come to depend
On the kindness of strangers
